@ryanc @jerry playing with MACs is a time bomb as we found out at my old part-time place (a data-centre)

thankfully I do not use Linux myself so all I usually need to do to avoid issues like this is put something like hint.igb.0.at="pciA:B:C:D:" in device.hints

because PCI bus enumeration is usually (but not always) persistent
